2017-11-08 The Gospel Leads Us to Glorify God
In our Wed PM study of Revelation, we have camped out on the church at Sardis because it is certainly a church that can represent any of us in the US. They started out on fire, but the fire died out. Jesus calls them back to life by pointing out proof they weren’t still actively walking and working with Him. Their deeds were incomplete and DOA. But our resurrected Savior is willing to work with them to get the fire going. He tells them to REMEMBER “what they have received and heard”, then obey and repent. Our side study is a look at the real and complete Gospel Jesus and Paul shared with every follower. This message goes to the end of what is readily accepted as a very complete explanation of Christian doctrine; Romans. Chapter 15 is relevant as Paul is now wrapping up what he had shared and reminding them how to put it into action. Christians in America, we need to listen and apply this practical teaching so we can complete our ministry that glorifies The Lord God.

Some feel this particular message is quite ironic considering the sad and evil events that happened to the Family of God in Texas yesterday. I will let each of you decide… I certainly don’t wish to imply that I foresaw anything, but I did seek for The Holy Spirit of God to guide my words so they would be from Him. Many of us know that we have had a time or two when we KNEW that our life and death moment was at hand. It can be as quick as a car/motorcycle wreck, a heart attack, or equally sudden when a Dr tells us to sit down because he needs to explain the results of a test. Sometimes those moments are not directly ours, but someone we love and cherish and just can’t imagine life without. When those things happen, we often cry out to God. That’s good! What’s not so good is when we fail to pray and seek Him according to His promises. Ultimately, for LIFE, we need to build a long lasting perspective of WHO GOD IS. My fail-safe is found in Jonah 4; HE is Gracious, Compassionate, Slow to Anger, and Abounding in Love. I “choose” to trust Him and His plan for me. There are numerous encouragements to pray and promises that Jesus gave us. Sadly, we often miss the foundation of the Greatness of God because we focus on human understanding instead of the security of HIS LORDSHIP. Jesus exhibited the way we should pray while He was praying in the Garden on the Mount of Olives prior to His crucifixion. He shared His own perspective and appeals. Then He peacefully resigned to YOUR WILL be done (not my own). That’s the secret that squashes fear. God is large and in charge. Today’s message reveals what can happen when we insist on our will instead of trusting His.

2017-10-25 Gospel The Heart of Ministry
What’s this got to do with Revelation? Simply, it’s quite possible the church of Sardis experienced what we are in American churches today. In an effort to get numbers up, ministries start compromising the gospel of Jesus Christ. Jesus told Sardis that they had unfulfilled ministry; incomplete deeds. The Lord’s directives included “remembering WHAT they had received and heard”, obey it and repent. Innocently enough, and in an attempt to reach people and save their souls, ministries have started sharing the bare bones of the gospel: you’ve sinned, you will die in your sins, Jesus died to forgive you, accept Jesus by saying or praying this… That is true! But the failure is not following up with the WHOLE TRUTH of the gospel, or as Paul Harvey was famous for saying, “the rest of the story”. Tonight’s message focuses in on Paul in Acts 20. He is able to lay out a great pattern for ministry; not just preachers and missionaries, but for each of us and OUR own ministry. He had taught the church at Ephesus for over 3 years and he still took one more swipe at making sure the leadership understood they are to guard the Truth! Think about that. Why would Paul spend 3 years teaching the “whole/complete will of God” if it could be condensed down into a 3 minute testimony and a 1 minute prayer. Let’s not fail to live out the whole gospel and disciple others to complete surrender.

The church at Sardis had forgotten a few things, including what to hold onto. As we look at the “actions of the first century church in ACTS”, we can see how they handled this great news of the Gospel. It wasn’t without hassle as persecution broke out and scattered the believers back to where they came from. Philip and others spread The Word. Paul and his cohorts faced various struggles, including The Holy Spirit blocking their desire to preach in Asia. But The Lord God has some divine appointments that we must make. Rev 3:2 shares that Jesus spoke to Sardis and said your deeds aren’t complete… May we be confident in knowing He wants us to share The Gospel; wherever we are!
