2017-10-25 Gospel The Heart of Ministry
What’s this got to do with Revelation? Simply, it’s quite possible the church of Sardis experienced what we are in American churches today. In an effort to get numbers up, ministries start compromising the gospel of Jesus Christ. Jesus told Sardis that they had unfulfilled ministry; incomplete deeds. The Lord’s directives included “remembering WHAT they had received and heard”, obey it and repent. Innocently enough, and in an attempt to reach people and save their souls, ministries have started sharing the bare bones of the gospel: you’ve sinned, you will die in your sins, Jesus died to forgive you, accept Jesus by saying or praying this… That is true! But the failure is not following up with the WHOLE TRUTH of the gospel, or as Paul Harvey was famous for saying, “the rest of the story”. Tonight’s message focuses in on Paul in Acts 20. He is able to lay out a great pattern for ministry; not just preachers and missionaries, but for each of us and OUR own ministry. He had taught the church at Ephesus for over 3 years and he still took one more swipe at making sure the leadership understood they are to guard the Truth! Think about that. Why would Paul spend 3 years teaching the “whole/complete will of God” if it could be condensed down into a 3 minute testimony and a 1 minute prayer. Let’s not fail to live out the whole gospel and disciple others to complete surrender.

The church at Sardis had forgotten a few things, including what to hold onto. As we look at the “actions of the first century church in ACTS”, we can see how they handled this great news of the Gospel. It wasn’t without hassle as persecution broke out and scattered the believers back to where they came from. Philip and others spread The Word. Paul and his cohorts faced various struggles, including The Holy Spirit blocking their desire to preach in Asia. But The Lord God has some divine appointments that we must make. Rev 3:2 shares that Jesus spoke to Sardis and said your deeds aren’t complete… May we be confident in knowing He wants us to share The Gospel; wherever we are!

    2017-10-08 Don’t Dilute God’s Water
Stressed and Distressed? Anxious Anxiety? With all that’s going on in this world today, it’s easy to lose our mind and be paralyzed with fear. That’s part of what’s gone wrong; we have lost our minds (or at least control of them) and given in to emotional response. Over and over this week following the mass shooting in Las Vegas, we have heard various reasons of why this event happened. Politicians immediately started pointing fingers and sharing how much we need new and stricter laws. Law enforcement and profilers have been baffled by the lack of motive or normal reasoning. They haven’t found the letter of confession that answers the WHY?. If there is a link, I suggest we look back to God and the Bible. In the beginning God had only one rule, leave the tree of “knowledge of good and EVIL” alone and live. Adam and Eve ignored God and were banished from their peaceful life. Now, there were consequences, but none so horrendous as what happened when one of their sons killed their other son, his only brother. WHY? Because man now had a knowledge of evil. It didn’t stop there. Genesis 6 records that evil grew until every inclination of their heart was evil all the time. Jesus in Matthew 24:37 said that when He comes back it will be just like in the days of Noah… It’s time that we who claim to believe, begin to obey the one we claim to believe in. Let’s learn from Adam and Eve and trust The Lord has shared with us the “best” way to live. He doesn’t give teachings and commands to hurt us, but to benefit us. We can’t control much at all, but each of us can control Who/what we believe and not water down His warnings or directions.

Some think we are going slow through Revelation. Personally, I don’t want to miss ALL JESUS wanted to reveal. Sardis; the church that wasn’t alive and hadn’t completed the deeds they were designed to do, was encouraged to not forget (or remember) what they had received! We know Jesus told His followers to teach others ALL that He had taught them. This message is a look into Jesus’ teaching about ALL the Gospel; the real and total Good news. He did not call us to be His master, but is willing to eternally bless all of us that “call” Him Master. His teachings reflect the understanding of the life that results from Him being Lord of a sold-out life. It is Good News that He died for our sins. That News becomes better yet as we live a life that’s better than good; a Divine Life of victory over sin and self.

2017-10-01 Get Your Head in the Cloud
Growing up I often heard the phrase used, "Get your head out of the clouds". It was typically used to say "quit dreaming" or "get real". Granted there are times when we need to be realistic about getting a job done, or homework. Daydreaming or floating on air can interfere with our practical effectiveness. On the other hand, IN CHRIST, we need to get out of our worldly mindset and follow Paul's admonishment in Colossians; set our minds and hearts on things above where Christ is at the right hand of God. The message today is about the Israelites being IN the presence of God, but failing to embrace Him. It's about going with the crowd instead of going with God.

Most lawyers will tell you it is important to read the fine print. Yet, isn’t it amazing that lawyers write the small print? They know we are so quick to get on with things that we won’t pay attention to details. Like, how many of us know how much freedom we give a corporation when we download a “free” app? Now, I am even more concerned that very few Christians read the fine print. They hear FREE Gospel, but fail to comprehend that someone (Jesus Christ) paid dearly for it. He did make salvation free, but He also compelled His followers to freely share it if they completely accepted it. Matthew writes what Jesus said in MT 10 as He SENT His disciple/followers out to TELL OTHERS. He warned them, but sent them nonetheless. He reminded them in vs. 8; “Freely you have received, freely give.” After accepting the true Gospel of Jesus, we should all begin sharing it. If we don’t share, it probably indicates we didn’t fully receive. How can we receive it and not care that others are going to miss heaven?
